Our inputs for the final report
The global South was represented by a Jean Paul NANFACK Vice Mayor of Fongo Tongo in Cameroon and active leader of Mayors for Peace Association In his capacity as executive secretary of Coordination of Africa Mayors for Peace and Development CAMPAD he organised a worshop on the theme “Military expenses versus funding sustainable development goals” with an emphasis on undeveloped countries. About 30 participants attended the workshop and brought the following proposals
On reduction of military expenditures
- Arm investors were requested to redirect they investment in road and infrastructures needs ( in Africa the needs stand at less than 2 trillions us dollars) and heath needs( the research on cancer drug, an every 2 seconds world killer)
On world peace resilience
- A call was made for all mayors in the world to join mayors for peace and be active to promote the covenant of the association that claims today about 7000 cities members
- A strong request was send the Germany and those allies who organized the 1884 Berlin conference that leaded to the repartition and colonisation of Africa to compensate colonized countries from all the setback they suffered and still suffer
The vice mayor also attended a panel discussion on with ngo/governmental collaborations under the moderation of Jacquie Cabasso
Here the need for more information on the mass on the danger of nuclear weapons was emphasised and CAMPAD announced the organization before 2020 of two international peace events( Football Match/Musical show) to sensitize international public opinion on the reduction of military expenditures and nuclear investment The proposals were highly welcomed
Finally on media initiatives, a partnership agreement was signed between EURO ASIAN FUND and Media Peace Development Africa MAPDA represented by Jean Paul NANFACK for exchange and promotion of peace and development information across.
